Description
House, formerly farmhouse. C.1700 altered C18 and C19. Coursed squared ironstone, thatch roof, stone end and ridge stacks, brick end stack to left. L-plan with through-passage. 2 storeys and attic; 5-window range. 6-panel door to right of centre with pegged wood surround, wood lintel and straight hood on brackets. Blocked door to left with moulded stone surround. Pair of 16-pane sash windows to right with stop-chamfered wood lintels. Otherwise 2-light casement windows to ground and 1st floors with stone surrouds of original stone mullion windows. Blocked window to 1st floor left. Projecting wing to far left has similar 2-light windows to right side, a blocked cellar and ground floor window to gable end, 3-light casement window to 1st floor replacing stone mullion window and pair of blocked vertical oval windows to gable with keyed stone surrounds. Chamfered plinth and quoins and stone-coped gables with kneelers. Left side elevation has one 2-light ovolo-moulded 1st floor window. Rear elevation has C20 plank door to right of centre with chamfered stone jambs and moulded stone lintel. Full height stair turret to left of centre has blocked 2-light stone mullion cellar window, pair of stepped 1-light windows lighting flights to ground and 1st floors with moulded stone surrounds and hood moulds, blocked circular window with moulded stone surround, and stone-coped gable with kneelers. 16- pane window to ground floor far left with wood lintel, 2- and 3- light casement windows to floor with moulded stone surrounds of original stone mullion windows. 1st floor has 4-light ovolo-moulded stone mullion leaded window to far left, similar 2-light windows to left of stair turret and above door and similar 3-light window to right of turret. Gabled dormer window above latter with similar 3-light window. Interior: Dog-leg staircase from ground floor to attic with turned balusters. Ogee stop-chamfered spine beams. One room with fielded panelling and 2 fitted cupboards with round-arched heads and shaped shelves. Similar cupboard in another room. Stone-flagged hall. Stone cellar.
