Description

Well-house. Early C16, repaired C18 with red brick. Dressed ironstone with extensive brick patching. Small square structure on hillside overlooking Fawsley Farm. Small chamfered round-headed doorway with plank door to south-west side, left of centre, brickwork to right angle and to back and sides. Stepped stone pyramidal roof with finial. Interior has fine 8-ribbed vault with chamfered stone ribs. Steps down to water. The well has never been known to run dry and formerly supplied water to Fawsley Hall (g.v.) by means of lead pipes. Pipeline now severed by access road to nearby quarry. A small square structure on hillside overlooking Fawsley farm (g.v.).
