Description

House. Early C17 and mid C18 with medieval origins and C19 alterations. Coursed squared limestone and ironstone, tile roof, stone and brick ridge stack. Two parallel ranges overlapping in the middle. 2 storeys and attic. Main entrance range of 5 windows has part-glazed door with architrave surround and straight hood on brackets to left, the lead on hood dated 1749. Irregular fenestration with 12-pane sash window with stone sill and timber lintel between door and C19 2-window projection, 2 similar sash windows to first floor left of projection, various ashlar sashes to right. Ironstone plinth and quoins. Extension to left with large wood mullion and transom window lighting staircase. 4-window range to garden has central 4-panel door with fanlight in recessed stone arch with round arch imposts and keyblock set within rectangular frame; 12-pane sashes with stone sills and timber lintels; chamfered plinth, brick dentil cornice and 2 roof dormers. Interior: stone-flagged floors, 4-centred arched fireplace in back range. Fine late medieval truss in roof above presumed former open hall with clasped principals, tie-beam, king-post , and arched collar braces.
