Listed Building: Winwick Manor and south wing of Winwick Manor (1229787)

Manor house, now 2 houses. C16, and c.1920 by Morley Horder. Brick with diapering and original plain-tile roof. Originally half H-plan now reduced to L-plan with various extensions. 2 storeys with attic. Garden front with cross wing to right of 3-window range of 3-, 6- and 8-light stone mullion windows some with transoms and arch-headed lights, all with leaded lights. Some evidence of re-fenestration to ground and first floor. Large projecting cross wing to left has smaller cross wing, now used as a porch adjoining to the right. Large ashlar quoins and ashlar gable parapets to the cross wing. Tall brick stacks to ridge c.1920. Eight-window range set back to right added in 1920 in similar style with 2- and 3-light stone mullion windows. Centre gable and similar gable to left. Elevation to left of 3-window range of 2- and 3-light stone mullion windows with transoms. Centre projecting 2-storey porch, which was probably added when the house was reduced in size, has a c.1920 glazed door under a moulded stone segmental arch. Attic gable set back behind porch has 3-light stone mullion window with arch heads. Rear elevation has some original 2-light stone mullion windows to right. 3-storey projecting porch and range to left are c.1920. Interior: Library has open fireplace with moulded stone surround. Drawing room to right of Entrance Hall has 2 fireplaces with moulded stone surrounds, one with simple strapwork decoration and carved wooden overmantel. The panelling in this room was reset from elsewhere in 1920. The C17 style plaster ceiling also dates from 1920. The main staircase which rises around a well with quarter landings is probably C17 and has flat tapering balustrades, handrails with dentilled mouldings and continuous panelled newels. 2 first-floor rooms have fireplaces with moulded stone surrounds. The hall and a wing similar to that remaining today probably occupied the area now covered by the 1920's extension, since foundations were discovered during construction in 1920.
