Description
Coffee house, now house. Datestone 1853. Probably by E.F. Law for William Mackworth-Dolben. Squared coursed ironstone with ashlar dressings and slate roof. Originally 2-unit plan. 2 storeys. 3-window range. Central C20 door with fanlight and 4-centred chamfered stone head. 3-light stone-mullion window to left and canted stone bay window to right. 2-light stone-mullion windows at first floor have gabled half dormers. Ashlar gable parapets with kneelers and stone stacks at ends. Initials MD in centre gable and datestone in flanking gables. Wrought iron hanging sign bracket attached to left corner. Rear similar with later C19 additions. Attached to Star Hall (q.v.) by single-storey porch. Interior not inspected. Built as a temperance coffee house. (Finedon Otherwise Thingdon by J.L.H.
