Description

Lodge and gatepier with gates. C.1810. Limestone ashlar with slate roofs. Lodge of one-unit plan. Single-storey. Projecting centre with raised pediments and flanking half pediments. Central sash with glazing bars has flat arch with keystone flanked by 2 blind occuli. Blank window above sashes. Central ashlar stack. Entrance facing gates has Gibbs surrounds with wrought iron lamp holder over. Cast iron screens, hand gate and carriage gate attached to right and linked by 2 cast iron gatepiers surmounted by gilded balls. All cast iron is in a close lattice pattern. Quadrant wall attached to left of lodge of brick with panel decoration terminated by an ashlar pier surmounted by an urn with torchere. The lodge, gates and gatepiers form a pair with east lodge (north). (Buildings of England : Northamptonshire, p.82).
