Description
1720-30 for Sir Joseph Jekyll, Master of the Rolls. Symmetrical design in ashlar. Hipped tiled roof behind low parapet and cornice. 2 storeys, basement and attics. Entrance front has Doric end pilasters under entablatures with triglyphs and guttae, 5 sash windows with glazing bars in eared architrave surrounds under keystones. 3 gabled dormers. Central doorway up steps has 8 panelled door and rectangular fanlight in architrave surround under pediment on consoles. Garden front similar but with 7 . al 3 on 1st floor round headed between tall pilasters. Pedimented central doorway. Interior: panelled staircase well, close string stairs with twisted turned balusters, carved spandrels. Dallington Hall, former stables and former barn form a group.
