Description

Lodge. Mid C18. Squared and coursed lias with ashlar dressings. Tower of 3 stages. Wide stone flight to blocked entrance with ogee head in second stage. Ogee headed window openings in second in 3rd stage. Castellated parapet with pinacles. Wrought iron weather vane. Single ashlar gate pier attached to left hand side has panel decoration. Folly built by Second Earl of Strafford and Wentworth. Mentioned in letter from Horace Walpole 1756. (The Buildings of England: Northamptonshire 1973 p110)
