Description
House (No. 6), formerly farmhouse. Mid C18. Coursed squared ironstone, plain-tile roof, stone end and ridge stacks. 3-unit plan. 2 storeys and attic; 4- window range. 6-panel part-glazed door to left of centre, approached by 3 moulded stone steps, in moulded wood surround, with timber lintel and wide porch on thin cast-iron columns. 3-light casement windows to ground and first floors. 3-light chamfered stone mullion cellar window to left of door. Plinth and chamfered stone eaves and stone-coped gables with kneelers. 3 hipped roof dormers. Overhanging canted bay to right gable end at ground floor level overlooking street. Lower late C18/early C19 2-storey, 2-window addition to left (No. 5) with 6-panel door with timber lintel and straight hood on brackets. 3-light casement to left, and small rectangular window to far left, both with timber lintels. 2-light casements to first floor and blocked door to first floor left. Interior: No. 6 has ogee-stop-chamfered spine beams, stone-flagged floors and open fireplace with chamfered bressumer. Dog-leg staircase from ground floor to attic with slender turned balusters. Fitted cupboard with shaped shelves. Stone cellar. Collar truss roof.
