Description
Northants 84/a A single bank and ditch complex, more or less oval in shape. Has been much ploughed in the past but the bank still stands about 3-4ft in height above the adjacent land. {AM7} The site is divided into two, roughly north west – south east. East part is under long established cultivation. West portion forms part of larger area of permanent pasture. {AM12 1980} Northants 84/b Single bank and ditch, which may be associated with 84/a. {AM7} Massive headland bank to west of 84/a. {AM7 1978} Northants 84/c To west of 84/a remains of a rectangular earthworks, or two parallel earthworks. {AM7} A shorter ploughed-out bank to the west again. Proposed for descheduling in bank (c0 which was ploughed out ‘many years before’ – c.1967 (see old works file.)). It is now scarcely visible and not worthy of scheduling. {AM7 1978} Northants 84/d Proposed for additional scheduling is the ground between 84/a and 84/b which like them is old grassland. It consists of impressive ‘ridge and furrow’ with other headlands, some ‘furrows’ being over 2ft deep. 84/a may in fact be another headland (as well as 84/a or not?) an Iron Age camp, so it makes sense to schedule the ground between. {AM7 1978}
