Description
Manor house. C16 with C18 and C20 alterations. Coursed ironstone rubble with ironstone dressings, plain tile roofs, massive central stone stack. Double-depth plan. 2 storeys and attic; 2-window range. Present entrance front has central double-leaf C20 doors with chamfered and moulded stone surround and Tudor-arched head. Large 2-storey canted bay window to right with hollow-chamfered stone mullions and hood moulds. 3-light leaded chamfered mullion windows to ground, 1st and attic floors left. Similar window to attic floor right. Quoins and pair of stone-coped gables with kneelers to front. C20 single-storey extension to left. Rear elevation to garden refronted C18 in red brick in Flemish bond with flared headers. Hipped roof to this side with slates to front slope and 3 windows. Central C19 panelled door with overlight and moulded wood surround, 12-pane sash windows to ground and 1st floors with gauged brick lintels and painted keyblocks. Brick-banded pilasters to either end and to left of door with limestone plinth mouldings. Interior has some stop-chamfered spine beams, collar truss roof and small stone cellar. Present front door is a C20 widening of original Tudor-arched door. (Buildings of England, Northamptonshire, 1973, p307)
