Description
House, now house and shop. Early C18. Regular coursed limestone with artificial-slate roof. Originally 3-unit plan. Single storey with attic; 3-window range of C19 and C20 casements under wood lintels. Window to far left has glazed shop door attached. 3 hipped-eaves dormers to attic have similar casements. Central C20 door. Brick and stone stacks at ridge. Interior has chamfered spine beams, and remains of open fireplaces, now blocked. Wadenhoe Office is said to be the first telegraph post office opened in an English village; this was instituted by the Right Honourable George Ward-Hunt who was Chancellor of the Exchequer in Disraeli's cabinet of 1868. Included for group value.
