Listed Building: Duddington Manor, and attached wall and pier (9/96)

Manor house. Datestone NI/1633 for Nicholas Jackson, extended late C17, C18 and C19. Squared coursed limestone with ashlar dressings and Collyweston slate roof. Originally, probably, a 2-unit plan at right angles to the High Street, now L-shape; part is double depth. 2 and 3 storeys. Entrance front of 3-window range. Central plank door with C17 moulded stone surround with 4-centred arch-head. C19 seven-light, canted, stone mullioned bay window, to right, is 2-storey with trefoil-head lights. C19 three-light, stone mullion, window, to ground floor left, also has trefoil-head lights. 2 sash windows with glazing bars, to first floor, are under stone lintels with keyblocks. Ashlar stacks at ridge and ends. Datestone above entrance. 4-window range, attached to right, is probably late C17 raised C18 to 3 storeys. Two, 3-light, stone mullion windows to first floor left; other windows are casements, some with leaded-lights, under wood lintels. Late C19 stone porch, to centre, has panelled door and is at a lower level than the main entrance. Elevation to rear of this range has 4 sash windows, with glazing bars, at first floor, under stone lintels with keyblocks. Elevation to left of entrance front, abutting High Street, has a 3-window range of large C19 three-light windows with transoms and cusped headed lights. Flush gables to either end of range. Garden front, to rear of this range, has a pair of gables each with a 2-window range of sash windows. Those to left are under stone lintels with keyblocks, those to right are mid C20 replacements. 2 sets of French doors at ground floor. Section of wall and attached pier to right of main entrance forms part of garden layout with office, outbuildings and attached wall and pier approximately 10 metres north of Duddington Manor (q.v.) and gates and attached gatepiers approximately 10 metres east of Duddington Manor (q.v.). Interior: entrance hall has C17 style panelling, some is probably original, reset. Large fireplace with stone surround and 4-centred arch-head. Staircase to right of entrance hall is probably early C19, with stick balustrade. Dining Room, to rear left of entrance hall, is C19 panelled and has large fireplace with 4-centred arch-head; all in style of a baronial hall. The house, which was originally probably not a manor house, has been in continuous ownership of the Jackson family since the C17.
