Description

1881, by John Sebastian Gwilt. No 1 in Tudor style. 4 storeys in coursed rubble. 4 windows on top storey, 3 of 2 lights and 1 of 3, stone mullions. 2nd floor has 3 windows of 4 lights and 1 of 6. 1st floor has 2 of 4, 2 lights over door and 1 window of 6 lights. Ground, or high basement, floor has 2 windows of 2 lights and doorway with arched head and scraper and another window of 2 lights. Parapet and cornice, gabled over centre coat of arms, with finial. Carved coats of arms between 2nd and to floors. String between 1st and 2nd floors. To right, taller tower section of 4 storeys with crenellated prapet and 1 window to each storey, of 3 lancet lights on the top storey. The other storeys have 4-light windows. Thin strings. Dated 1885. North Street corner elevation of Laxton School in Gothic style, gabled with finial and griffin holding standard. Kneelers. 1 large perpendicular window, and plaque in Hebrew, Greek and Latin over arched doorway with shield terminals. Main elevation to hurch Yard has oriel window with pointed roof and is open on to 1st floor, of 4 arched lights with mullions, Welsh slate roof with red ridge tile. Next section to west is late C19 with 2 windows over 2 of 6 lights with mullions and transoms. Next section of 1933 in coursed rubble with 1 long oriel window and crenellated parapet, 10-light mullion and transom, coat of arms to base. Doorway to right. Laxton Grammar School forms with The Cloisters. New Street
