Description

House. Early C17, altered C18 and C19. Coursed limestone rubble, stone slate roof, brick and stone stacks. U-plan, through passage, but altered C18-C19 when new entrance made in north front. 2 storeys with attic and cellar, 3 bays. West front has central gabled projection and gabled end bays. Cellar entrance in left bay with C20 door. Main doorway left of centre has stone 4 centred arch with square hood and ribbed plank door. 2-light stone mullioned window with square hood to right. Similar 3-light windows in second bay from right, left bay and on first floor. 2-light stone mullioned windows in attic. Some windows have leaded panes. Half dormers with coped gables and kneelers. Chimney stack at apex of central gable. The left (north) side has 3 storey gabled projection with a stone mullioned bay window on each floor. To left and set back, gabled bay, 2 storeys and attic with C19 doorway and windows altered C19. To right, (south side) extension, altered C20, limestone rubble, stone tile roof, one storey and attic. At rear, 2 gabled projecting wings, altered C19. Interior: Dog-leg staircase, early C17 with turned balusters and newels with carved finials. Gate on first floor landing with splat balusters. C18 panelling in hall. Inglenook fireplace (remodelled) with original 2-light stone mullioned window. Drawing room has early C19 Gothic doorcases and panelled doors. C17 stone corner fireplaces with 4-centred arches in ground floor room and 2 bedrooms.
