Description
{1} Archaeological evaluation undertaken by AOC (Archaeology) Ltd 23rd-24th June 1997, on the site of the proposed development within the grounds of Saxon Lodge, Residential Care Home for the Elderly, High Street, Earls Barton, Northampton. Three trenches were opened which contained widely differing remains. One contained a small section of ditch which appears to be the continuation of the scheduled earthwork mound and ditch, Berry Mount. A second trench proved that this monument had been truncated by the construction of buildings prior to 1838, and the later construction of the old vicarage by 1885. The final trench displayed no evidence of any occupation or usage prior to its current use as a vegetable garden. Site code: EBSL 97.
