Description

{1} Northamptonshire Archaeology carried out an archaeological watching brief between April and October 2008 during exploration for proposed underpinning of the garage and groundworks for the laying of a new patio and conservatory (the latter not finally constructed), with new service introduction at Thorpe Castle House. The work was undertake in order to fulfil Scheduled Monument Consent. 8 boreholes were monitored around the south and east sides of the garage. They were characterised by the very high water-table which negated recording below 0.3-0.5m depth. No significant waterlogged archaeological deposits were encountered. Likewise, the surface stripping carried out around the south and west sides of the house (to a depth of 0.25-0.35m) failed to reveal archaeology or finds.
