ENN105600 - Barnwell Manor Windfarm, 2011 (Trial trench)

{1} Archaeological evaluation at the site of the proposed Barnwell Manor Wind Farm, Sudborough, to assess the impact of development on any surviving archaeological remains. Six trenches were excavated by machine, of which three contained archaeological remains although the features were not indicative of settlement. The archaeological features were mainly in the form of linear features with possible tree bowls. The linear ditch recorded in Trench 5 may have functioned as a boundary ditch considering its size. The gully recorded in Trench 1 may have a different function possibly for drainage or agricultural use. The possible tree bowls may be an indication of a previous tree or shrub line. The edges of these shallow features were not well defined and no dating evidence was recovered. Based on the evaluation it is clear that there is a low quantity of archaeological remains on site.
