Description
Northamptonshire Archaeology was commissioned by Kilmartin London Ltd to undertake a desk-based assessment of land at bRackmills Point, Northampton. The proposed devlopment area encompasses the former cattle market and pasture fields to the west of Great Houghton. Geophysical anomalies close to the northern boundary of the cattle market may indicate the presence ofburied archaeology. To the south a large field marked with ridge and furrow earthworks of probable early post-medieval date has evidently not been ploughed in recent centuries. It is therefore thought to offer some archaeological potential for prehistoric to medieval remains as numerous observations of finds scatters and in situ features have been made in the vicinity, although not within the development area itself.
