Description

Archaeological attendance for Investigation, Recording, Analysis and Publication (watching brief) was carried out by University of Leicester Archaeological Services (ULAS) during ground-works to the rear of 6, Church Street, Titchmarsh, Northamptonshire (NGR: TL 022 798). The archaeological work was commissioned by Jo and Jane Cooper and was required as a condition of the planning consent for a new development at the site, which included the demolition of the existing single storey rear extension and its replacement with a new two storey rear extension. The site lies close to the medieval church of St. Mary and adjacent to the new rectory where two burials were discovered in the 1960s during construction work. A pair of medieval stoups, presumably from the church were also discovered close to the site. The excavation of foundation trenches for the new extension was monitored. No archaeological remains were discovered. The archive for the site will be deposited with Northamptonshire Museums in due course with ULAS site code NH_CST.2013. Information from OASIS Online Form.
