Description

{2} Archaeological investigation was undertaken prior to the construction of new council offices. There was activity on the site from the late Saxon period onwards. In the 12th century there was a carver's workshop on the St John's Street frontage and brewing and baking was undertaken here during the late 12th and early 13th centuries. A single stone building remained on the frontage until c1600.
