Description

{1} Area 4: During the summer of 1967 a screen of young poplars was planted near the centre of the site by mechanical excavator. A second, hand-excavated trench was placed in the adjacent field. This was followed by machine excavation of a large, sunken garden. Area 5: this phase resulted from deep rotovation in the late autumn of 1967, just south of Area 4. The area was hand excavated during the 1968 planting. Area 6: this area was defined by divining rods in the summer of 1968, followed by hand-excavation.
