Description

A small-scale programme of geophysical survey was undertaken in November 2015 at the site of Longmans Hill Long Barrow, Pitsford (centred on SP 7507 6774). This geophysical survey comprised GPR survey, magnetic and resistivity survey. This work was undertaken as part of a wider project to characterise the geophysical 'signature' of well-attested long barrow sites in the Midlands and East Anglia. The results have been promising, although the area available for investigation was limited. In particular, the GPR survey demonstrated significant potential across the barrow mound itself. A major aim of the survey was to characterise the ditch profiel around the barrow. Unfortunately, this has been met with only partial success, given the extensive disturbance that was noted in all surveys across the site.
