Description

MOLA was commissioned to record the excavation of two test pits to the rear of 2 Polwell Lane, Barton Seagrave, Northamptonshire. The archaeological works were undertaken to provide additional information for comment on the planning application for the construction of a detached dwelling. The proposed new dwelling coincides with the southern moat of ‘Barton Seagrave Castle’, a moated site (Scheduled Monument). The test pits recorded a sequence of deposits that may relate to the build-up of material in the area of the southern moat.
