Description

A geophysical survey was carried out between the villages of Collyweston and Ketton, along the proposed route of a replacement water main. Magnetic interference caused by an existing water pipe dominated along much of the northern edge of the survey corridor. Amorphous anomalies were identified, particularly in the lower lying parts of the corridor closest to the river Welland. These anomalies were thought to be due to variations within the superficial deposits of alluvium and/or river terrace sands and gravels. No anomalies of possible archaeological origin were identified. Therefore, on the basis of the geophysical survey, the archaeological potential of the pipe corridor was considered as being low.
