Description

{1} Four evaluation trenches showed that the main A509 road close to the former Monk and Minstrel PH had a discontinuous frontage in the post-medieval period with no evidence of anything earlier. Behind the public house the land of this plot had been extensively quarried, producing pronounced differences in levels with adjacent ground to the west and the plot to the south. No archaeology had survived the quarrying which probably took place in the 19th century.
