Description

Site code: ESAN15. Pre-Construct Archaeology were commissioned to undertake an archaeological watching brief on groundworks as a requirement of planning consent for development on their property at End Cottage, 8 Lower Road, Stoke Albany, Northamptonshire. The watching brief was carried out on 28 June and 21 July 2015. A feature filled with Ironstone blocks was interpreted as a foundation pad for a post of pre-existing buildings on the Site depicted on 19th century maps. It is uncertain when these buildings were constructed but it is quite feasible that they were contemporaneous with the 17th Century End Cottage. A small assemblage of finds consisting of 18th - 20th century pottery, clay pipe and a copper alloy button was recovered from a pit and an overlying subsoil layer. Information from OASIS Online Form.
