Description

{1} In addition to monitoring a programme of geotechnical test-pitting in archaeologically sensitive parts of the site, four areas (Areas A-D) were identified that were to be subject to the watching brief. At the northern end of Moat Lane, investigations identified a ditch of probable Roman date and towards the southern end of Moat Lane, two pits, probably of a similar date, were encountered. These probable Roman features were cut into the geological substrate and were sealed by thick accumulations, up to 1.4m thick, of garden soil and made-ground. Other features included a large post-medieval pit and a 19th-century cellar. No archaeological features or deposits were encountered within the Scheduled area of Bury Mount. Site code: TML14.
