Description

Community excavation of a Roman farmstead. Started in 2016 and planned to continue until at least 2028. The site is thought to comprise Iron Age occupation and subsequent Roman farmstead. Investigations currently comprise open area excavation in the area of the Roman building(s) and trenches around the site investigating Iron Age features. [No detail currently known 24/10/2018]. {2} Excavations have revealed a large stone built Roman barn and ancillary features, including a corn dryer. Geophysical survey identified potential parallel ditches, possibly flanking former trackways, along with linear features likely to represent former boundaries or enclosures.
