Description

{1} Archaeological evaluation over an area of 4ha, comprising a total of nine trenches. Trenches were targeted where the geophysical survey indicated presence of below-ground archaeology. Additional trenches were positioned in archaeologically blank areas. About a half of the site (the area to the west) had previously been disturbed by former gravel extraction, which is depicted on early OS maps. In the eastern half several Iron Age ditches appear to relate to former enclosures and an undated gully corresponded to the geophysical anomaly of a possible ring ditch.
