Description
{1} Archaeological observation during the erection of a single storey rear extension to the existing structure, a new side brick wall enclosure and a timber enclosure to the adjacent sub-station. Trenches 1-3 were excavated as footing trenches for the single storey rear extension to the existing structure and were 5.2 and 2.9m long, and 1.7 to 1.9m deep. Trenches 4 and 5, which were 0.94m and 0.50m deep respectively, were excavated for the placement of concrete pads to act as the foundation of a lintel to support the enclosure wall, and consequently were only 1.5m in length. Four small trial holes were also excavated subsequent to the main body of works, to test for ground contamination and the depth of the water table. Each was 0.3m wide, 1m long, and 1m deep, cutting into made ground and up to 0.8m of mid greyish silty clay beneath. No archaeological features or finds were identified.
