Description

{1} The aim of the survey was to investigate the character of an upstanding earthwork known locally as 'flat-top' barrow and located over alluvium. The survey detected a circular feature somewhat greater than 20m in diameter, although the anomaly was a negative feature, perhaps suggesting the ditch had been infilled with stone. Activity within the ring was intense, possibly indicating the presence of masonry structures. {2} AML Survey Database Reference No.: 581. Survey type: Magnetometer: recorded grid. Survey type: Resistivity: recorded grid. Part of the Raunds Area Project for the Central Archaeology Service, to examine three probable barrows - one in the ARC gravel quarry & two cropmark sites (CAS No 176/1/1 & 1344/1/4).
