Description

{1} Archaeological observation was undertaken during groundworks for an extension to the church and an associated sewer. The foundation trenches, for an extension 4.5m square abutting the north side of the tower and west end of the north aisle, were excavated on 28th April 1999 and the sewer pipe trench was excavated between 29th November and 20th December 1999. The foundation trenches were 0.7m wide and 2m deep and the sewer trench was between 0.3 and 0.5m wide and 1.25 and 1.5m deep. A number of in situ burials were observed as well as the remains of a brick-lined vault and a possible pit containing bands of mortar debris.
