Description

Site code: XNNEKE20a {1} Excavation revealed Iron Age remains, concentrated in the northern half of the site. Within a large enclosure were two smaller D-shaped enclosures, associated with which were several fragments of human skull. Superimposed on these enclosures were a pair of south-facing, semi-circular ditches; the terminus of one contained a large dump of clay which has been interpreted as a failed or unused oven. Later medieval and post-medieval land use was evident from two later ditches, and in the system of ridge and furrow found across the site. Ephemeral Bronze Age remains were also found.
