Description

{1} A watching brief was undertaken during the construction of a new toilet in the west tower of the church along with the associated pipe work. The pipe trench was excavated using a small mechanical digger and finished by hand. The trench was 0.5-0.8m deep, which did not penetrate the grave earth; only disarticulated human bone was recovered, which reinterred. Removal of a cupboard revealed a pit in the west tower, possibly a pendulum pit, in which an earlier floor surface was observed.
