Description

Excavation of 1.1ha undertaken in advance of the construction of warehousing, distribution and associated office space. The investigation identified a small number of archaeological features primarily in the form of three ditches and five pits located in the southern extent of the excavation area. One of these pits contained a high concetration of near complete pottery which was dated to the late Iron Age/early Roman periods (1st to early 2nd centuries AD). A second pit, also containing large quantities of Roman pottery, was recorded nearby. These large concentrations of Roman pottery probably stem from deliberate dump fills. The remains of an aurochs skull and horns were recovered from a geotechnical test pit
