Description

The work was carried out by Paul Stamper Heritage following a planning requirement for a Level 2 building record to inform the proposed conversion of the Windmill Inn to a dwelling. The activity was undertaken to advance understanding of the heritage significance of fabric that might be affected by the development. It consisted of analysis of previous surveys, a site visit, and review of the building’s surviving structure and later alterations. The study found that although a late‑medieval cruck truss survives, most original historic fabric had already been lost during major rebuilding and reroofing in the 1980s, and the current proposals would have only minor, cosmetic impact on the historic building, with changes confined mainly to the late‑1980s rear extension.
