Description

{1} Five soakaways were excavated for drainage purposes. All contained human inhumation burials aligned west (head) to east; often in rows. Eighteen grave cuts containing 19 skeletons, and 34 other skeletons (lacking clear cuts) were distinguished. It was possible for some of the skeletons to work out the burial phasing. Two presumed grave cuts contained no bones while two others had two and three burials in one cut. Many of the burials contained post-medieval or early modern finds such as pottery, glass, shell and brass and/or pewter buttons, clinker and clay pipe stems. Drainage trenches were also excavated. In one, to the north of the church, part of an early modern paved surface was recorded. Human remains and finds were returned to the church for reburial.
