Description

{1} In 1966 Gwen Brown carried out a watching brief on the north-west side of the hillfort during the erection of radion masts by the BBC. In the first six holes dug, four contained occupatioal material including Roman pottery and an undated hearth. Sixteen more holes dug in September 1966 were all void of features except one, in which an occupation layer was found containing a single sherd of Iron Age/Roman pottery. A further sixty five holes were excavated in 'Area D' and again only one had any evidence of archaeological features, with a thick layer of burnt material, ash and charcoal with an iron nail.
