Description

{1} Excavation undertaken after reports of large quantities of 17th century pottery being found during the construction of a new house to the west of the Old Rectory. The excavation determined that the kiln was three-quarters beneath the north-west corner of the house and a flue to the stokehole was found 10ft to the west. Further possible kilns were noted to the north. When the fence to the new house was erected, inspection of the postholes revealed only one area of kiln debris - this was slightly north-west of the stoke hole and under a lime tree. Kilns subsequently excavated by P Mayes.
