Description
In November 2021, Cotswold Archaeology carried out an archaeological evaluation at land south of Roade Hill, Ashton, Northamptonshire. A total of 5 trenches were excavated. The evaluation recorded one north-west to south-east orientated ditch in the north part of the site, which contained post-medieval/modern pottery but is not shown on late 19th/20th-century maps of the site. The ditch was, however, on the same broad alignment of the extant field boundary to the east or trench 2. This feature is likely to represent a former boundary/drainage within the post-medieval/modern agricultural field system or gardens associated with the adjacent Grade II listed Old Manor farmhouse. No archaeological features or deposits pre-dating the post-medieval/modern periods were identified.
