Description

{1} Excavation carried out in advance of the construction of the A45/A605 new road. An area measuring c 80m by 20m (c0.20 ha in total) was excavated comprising two adjacent areas (known as Trench 1 and 2). A rectangular stone structure was found aligned along a metalled road surface. The road had been constructed over pits, ditches and gullies of the late first and early second centuries. Two trial trenches were also excavated; trial trench 1 was excavated through Trenches 1 and 2 through the Roman building and road and a second trial trench was excavated just to the east through the road surface to natural.
