Description

The archaeological investigations revealed remains of previously unrecorded occupation at the site during the Medieval period, preceded by a localised episode of limestone quarrying. The period of occupation was most clearly represented by stone buildings, or the stone foundations of buildings, that were constructed along much of the Cotterstock Road frontage of the site. Interpretation of the assemblage of pottery recovered during the fieldwork suggests that the most intensive period of occupation was relatively short-lived, and that most of the pottery derived from the period around AD1150 to 1250.
