Description

{1} Survey of Hornstock Wood to locate smelting sites succeeded in locating six slag heaps where the remains of furnace sites were visible. Two of the sites were subject to further investigation and Radiocarbon dates suggest that both smelting and smithing were being carried out in the early-middle Saxon period.
