Description

A programme of archaeological works was undertaken by Northamptonshire Archaeology prior to and during the laying of the Tansor to Cotterstock sewer pipeline. This comprised fieldwalking and geophysical survey followed by a watching brief. The geophysical survey revealed a number of potential features located to the west of the River Nene associated with cropmarks. The fieldwalking recovered Roman material in the same area. The pipeline was bored and directionally drilled limiting the potential for seeing archaeological remains. As a result the watching brief was limited to observations of a topsoil strip and the excavation of a series of test pits. Two small gullies and a trackway were uncovered during the watching brief. The gullies lay to the west of Cotterstock church and the trackway to the west of the River Nene lay near Oundle sewage works. Information from OASIS online
