Description

Magnitude Surveys was commissioned to access the subsurface archaeological potential of a c. 1.4ha area of land at Whittlebury, West Northamptonshire. A fluxgate gradiometer survey was successfully completed across the survey area. Linear trends have been identified throughout the survey area, which align with the ridge and furrow cultivation present at the time of survey. Several linear, curvilinear and discrete anomalies that do not correspond to the ridge and furrow regimes have been classified as ‘Undetermined’ in origin. Although these anomalies may be modern, agricultural or natural in origin, an archaeological interpretation cannot be excluded considering the presence of recorded archaeological features in the vicinity of the survey area. The impact of modern activity is mostly limited to survey boundaries. This disturbance may have obscured weaker anomalies, if any were present
