Description

An archaeological evaluation was required to fulfil planning conditions for a proposed development at Newton Residential Field Centre and Garden (Planning application no: NK/2023/83). It was considered that there was potential for below ground archaeological remains within the proposed development area, which lies near the Church of St. Faith (currently the Newton Residential Field Centre) and the Scheduled remains of a late 16th/17th century house, gardens and dovecote associated with the Tresham family estate, located immediately east of the church. Two evaluation trenches, 5m by 2m each, were machine excavated to a maximum depth of 0.98m, exposing the substrate. No archaeological remains or deposits were identified in either trench.
