Description

The Great War explosives Filling Factory at Banbury was identified from documentary sources during the RCHME project `Dangerous Energy - the archaeology of gunpowder and military explosives manufacture'. A field visit was made to the factory in September 1995 to confirm its location and the extent of the surviving remains. No further ground survey was initiated but it was recorded by low level oblique aerial photography in May 1996. The local reference library at Banbury was also visited and was found to contain a small archive of press clippings and other material relating to the site.
