Description
In October 2022, Cotswold Archaeology was tasked by Clowes Development to produce a Archaeology Impact Assessment and Heritage Settings Assessment of Shacks Barn Farm, Towcester. The Heritage Settings Assessment found that the proposed development would cause no harm to the significance of Lordsfield Farm Scheduled Monument through changes to it's setting. There will be limited visibility from Lordsfield Farm to the Site, as tree cover and topography combine to largely screen the proposed development from the Scheduled Monument. The important elements of its physical surrounds and experience will not be altered by the proposed development. The Archaeological Impact Assessment found potential for archaeological remains to be present and recommended that further geophysical survey works should be taken in the eastern portion of the site and thereafter, a trial trenching exercise may be required. However, the report states that this would not be required over the full site due to the extent of the previous impacts caused by the groundworks associated with the A43.
