Description
{1} This report presents the results of a study of a former historic footwear manufactory which operated at Carey Street in Kettering from 1900 until early 1982. As the building was almost entirely removed by late 2022/mid 2023, the intention of the study has been to expand upon existing knowledge of the factory, particularly its history, and its historical context. Owned and operated by F. Wright & Co. Ltd., the building was once a part of a greater complex, known as the Standard Works. The company was one of the region’s most-renowned footwear manufacturers, and for more than seven decades was one of Kettering’s major employers.
